Camps and Programs

Our Programs at a Glance

SUMMER AND WINTER CAMPS

Together with staff from the MetroHealth Medical Center Burn Unit and local firefighters, Camp Phoenix gives children ages 5-17 the chance to meet other burn survivors and enjoy all the fun at camp.

YOUNG ADULT PROGRAMS

Our young adult programs are geared toward young adults 18 and older who were burned as children. This program focuses on continuing education, counselor training, life skills, goal-setting, confidence and self-esteem.

FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION

Local firefighters give children hands-on training with the Fire Safety House, a trailer built to resemble a home. Children learn how to identify fire hazards and to develop a fire escape plan.

Camp Phoenix

Camp Phoenix is located in Strongsville, Ohio at Camp Cheerful.  At Camp Phoenix, burn survivors and their families participate in a variety of recreational activities such as canoeing, horseback riding, hiking, and swimming. These activities encourage confidence, independence and create opportunities for lifelong friendships.

LEARN ABOUT FIRE SAFETY

Fire Safety Trailer

This trailer is an excellent fire safety teaching tool. We are able to simulate smoke in the trailer, which is set up like a home. It has a “real” kitchen which enables us to teach children about kitchen safety. Our firefighters use this trailer to teach children about how to escape if there is a fire in their home. We bring the trailer to Safety Town, schools, community days and other fire prevention events. Fire Safety Trailers can be easily moved to wherever you want to teach fire safety.
